EEM program graduates were prominent among the more than 500 graduates of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the 2016 Graduation Celebration on Friday evening, May 13, 2006. With a full complement of parents, siblings, spouses, children, and other relatives and friends present to honor their accomplishments, a number of EEM graduates walked across the stage at the Smith Center to receive their diplomas and congratulations from Dean Dolling and the SEAS faculty. Environmental and Energy Management institute co-Director Professor Jonathan Deason served as the School Marshal for the event.

The ceremony included the presentation of 28 student awards to recognize various forms of student achievement, the Engineer Alumni Achievement Award, keynote speaker Emilio A. Fernandez and the recognition of each graduate. Mr. Fernandez is a SEAS Master’s Degree alumnus who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland. He is presently Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wabtec and the Managing Director of Pulse Capital, LLC. He previously was the President, CEO, and co-founder of Pulse Electronics, Inc.

Before the ceremony, graduates, their guests, and SEAS faculty, staff, and alumni gathered at the new Science and Engineering Hall for a pre-Celebration reception.

On May 15, the EEM graduates were treated to a spectacular ceremony on the National Mall. Keynote speaker New Jersey Senator Corey Booker provided an inspiring address, urging graduates to "stay faithful" in their careers. In addition to his service in the U.S. Senate, Booker is a former Newark, N.J. mayor and a city councilor.
